Featuring an amazing array of animated shorts by award-winning filmmakers.
- Glimpse - Dustin Grella
An experimental animated short, Glimpse is both a study of painter Willem de Kooning and a stream-of-consciousness narrative about the impermanence of life. 2007; 9 min. - Shuteye Hotel - Bill Plympton
What Jaws did to swimming, Shuteye Hotel will do for sleeping. In this new animated film noir murder mystery, set in a sleazy hotel, the police who are investigating a series of gruesome murders become victims of the evil force. 2007; 6 min. - Guide Dog - Bill Plympton
A sequel to the Oscar-nominated short Guard Dog. This time, the well-intentioned anti-hero dog aims to help the blind but with unexpectedly disastrous results. 2006; 6 min. - The Return of Sergeant Pecker - Pierre Delarue
A short erotic comedy for mature audiences. 2006; 2 min. Back by popular demand! - A New Haven – Roland Becerra
A sinister animation in which possessed kids suck on their party candies with glee. 2005; 3 min. - Dear Beautiful - Roland Becerra
In this stunning animation, the sudden appearance of exotic flowers in New Haven spawns an unprecedented epidemic that threatens to destroy the city. Paul and Lauren, a married couple, are caught between the catastrophe and their own troubled relationship after Lauren comes in contact with one of the flowers and becomes infected. 2007; 15 min. Back by popular demand! - Everything Will Be OK - Don Hertzfeldt
Winner of the Sundance Film Festival Grand Jury Award for Best Short Film. A series of dark events forces a man to reckon with the meaning of life — or lack thereof. This film was animated without the use of computers, and was shot entirely on an antique 35mm Richardson animation camera stand, one of the last of its kind in America. The special effects were meticulously created in-camera via traditional double exposures and trick photography techniques. 2006; 17 min. Back by popular demand! - Frank Film – Frank + Caroline Mouris
Esteemed as one of the best American short films ever made, Frank Film is a collection of 11,592 collages sequenced to illustrate the chronology of the filmmaker’s life. Spanning the years 1945-1973, this Academy Award-winning, wildly entertaining short film goes beyond the story of one man’s existence to become a collective autobiography of its time. 1973; 10 min. - Rabbit’s Moon – Kenneth Anger
A step-printed fable of an unattainable dream, combining elements of Commedia dell’Arte with Japanese myth. The classic pantomime figure of Pierrot encounters an enchanted Magick Lantern, Harlequin, and Columbine and enacts his unrequited longings. 1978, 7 min. - N.Y., N.Y. – Francis Thompson
Everyday street life becomes surreal in this masterpiece of experimental filmmaking. Exhilirating, whimsical, and engaging from start to finish, N.Y., N.Y. is an abstracted look at a day in the life of the city. 1957, 16 min. - Spacey – Takashi Ito
An amazing experimental animated short. Ito took a series of still photographs by setting up his cameras incrementally in a circle. He then took photos of those photos mounted on stands in the same gymnasium. He then photographed these onto film in stop motion. The striking visual effect gives the viewer the sensation of flying into infinitude. 1981; 10 min.Special Admission Price: $10=General Admission /$9=Students/Seniors/$8=Rutgers Film Co-op/NJMAC Friends!
