A combination of martial arts, acrobatics, and illusion, the National Acrobats of China have been amazing audiences for over 50 years. Set to traditional Chinese music, the group achieves what seems impossible for the human body to accomplish. From handstands to headstands, from kicks to flips, the group twists and contorts into human sculptures that seem to defy gravity. Winning several circus awards around the world.

“The High Castle” from Smetana’s Má vlast sets the tone for this program of intense Czech flavor. From the meandering currents of the Vltava River and the chatty salons of Prague to the folk spirit of Bohemia and the stubborn civilian resistance to political oppression, Dvořák’s Seventh captures the true essence of the Czech experience. The centerpiece of the program is Beethoven’s magnificent Fourth Piano Concerto—the most popular of his five concertos among pianists—which reveals a more tender side of Beethoven, one of geniality and sensitivity.

Sexy and racy, Blues singer Bessie Smith was the definition of a Red Hot Mamma and the most successful entertainer of her time. On the eve of her tragic and controversial death in 1937, Bessie takes center stage in a Memphis “buffet flat”, having walked out of the whites-only theatre where she was to perform earlier that evening. Now among friends, she tells the story of her amazing life and career, her loves (both men and women) and her losses.
Put your troubles aside, and soak up the blues as the incomparable Miche Braden sings the songs that made Miss Bessie so unforgettable including: St. Louis Blues, Need a Little Sugar in my Bowl and Nobody Knows You When You’re Down and Out.
