Artists Wanted for Highland Park festival

Main Street Highland Park is looking for a few talented artists to expand the roster for “Art in the Park” — the 2008 Highland Park Arts Festival. The festival will be held Sunday, Sept. 21 from 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., rain or shine, on Raritan Avenue. “The festival will be an all-outdoors juried art show to showcase fine arts and crafts from throughout the region,” said James McCrone, project director of for Main Street Highland Park. Organizers estimate that more than 10,000 people attended last year’s event — a record for the festival.

The show, open to artists who are at least 18 years of age, will offer competitions and the opportunity to showcase paintings, sculptures, photographs, fine crafts, illustrations and graphics, including those generated by computer.

A special “Green Art” category was created last year for artists who work exclusively with environmentally-friendly materials. Exhibiting artists must display original works, framed or otherwise prepared, for suitable exhibit under a canopy.

Interested artists should print an application form. Applications, slides and fees must be submitted by Friday, Aug. 8.
